By embracing setbacks as opportunities rather than obstacles, he learned to rebuild his “Lego Dragon” with resilience, adaptability, and a renewed sense of purpose, serving as a powerful reminder that failure is not the end, but rather a stepping stone toward greater strength and discoveries. Minseo Lee – Grade 11 “Living a Life That is Driven by Curiosity Rather Than Fear” Minseo shared her inspiring journey of overcoming fear and embracing a life fueled instead by curiosity. She recounted how taking the leap to run for vice president of the Student Council pushed her beyond her comfort zone, allowing curiosity to outweigh self-doubt and helping her conquer her fear of public speaking. She emphasized that living a curiosity-driven life doesn’t mean being fearless—it means acknowledging fear, understanding it, and choosing to move forward despite it. When struggling with her mental health, she found solace in the rhythmic energy of EDM, which became more than just music. Through her journey, she discovered that creativity isn’t merely a pastime or an artistic outlet—it is an intrinsic part of human nature that allows us to process emotions, find clarity, and restore balance in our lives. She emphasized that creativity serves as a bridge between our thoughts and emotions, helping us to express what words sometimes cannot. Whether through music, art, or movement, engaging in creative expression enables us to confront, understand, and ultimately heal from our struggles. Her talk was a much-needed reminder that creativity is not just about producing something—it’s about feeling, reflecting, and embracing the full depth of our human experiences. Mr. Sam – Samuel King (Humanities Teacher) “The Resurgence of the Word Delve: How Artificial Intelligence is Changing our Everyday Lives” Mr. Sam emphasized the importance of critical thinking in an AI-driven world, urging students to consider multiple perspectives when making decisions. Comparing it to the calculator, he explained that the controversial nature of AI is a natural part of society’s acceptance of a new age of technology—that it’s not going anywhere, and that AI is just another tool that aids us in our decisions, not a replacement for human judgment. “If you only contribute 10% to a task and let AI do the rest, that 10% is the most crucial part—because it will have to be you who makes the decisions.” With AI here to stay, he encouraged the audience to see it as an aid for efficiency rather than a decision-maker, reinforcing the need for human insight in an increasingly automated world. Ms. Lindsay Harrison (Learning Support Teacher) “Importance of Blood Donation: ‘What If a Gift Could Save Someone’s Life?’” Ms. Lindsay, a passionate advocate for blood donation awareness, shed light on the critical shortage of life-saving blood in the Southeast Asian region and the urgent need for action. As a person with O-negative blood, a universal donor but a recipient limited to O-negative donors, she shared her personal experiences and the challenges faced by those with rare blood types. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, blood donations have declined significantly, leaving hospitals struggling to meet demands, especially for O-negative blood, which is consistently in short supply. “I am asking the local and international community to join together, spread awareness, know your type, and go donate,” she urged. “So that we can finally stop continuously responding to emergencies.” Guest Speakers We were honored to welcome esteemed guest speakers who brought fresh insights and experiences on embracing change and emotional intelligence. From his early struggles to his rise as a leader in the industry, every step of his path served as a reminder to remain diligent, adaptable, and forward-thinking in the face of uncertainty. Khun Topp has played a pivotal role in shaping Thailand’s digital asset landscape. A well-respected speaker and one of the country’s leading experts in bitcoin and open blockchain technology, he emphasized the importance of embracing change, staying ahead of innovation, and challenging conventional thinking to drive meaningful progress. Khun Topp is the Founder and Group CEO of Bitkub Capital Group Holdings Co., Ltd., as well as a well-known speaker and one of Thailand’s leading bitcoin and open blockchain experts. Ponpimon Srisongkam “The Emotion Filter: How Self-Empathy Cleanses Our Feelings” Khun Ponpimon delivered a transformative talk on The Emotion Filter and the power of self-empathy in bringing clarity to our emotions. She explored how different processes can help us understand our emotions, but self-empathy is crucial for us to develop emotional maturity and stability. “The best advice I have given,” she stated, “was to provide yourself with the same kindness you’d offer to someone you love—but self-empathy takes this a step further. It’s not just about being supportive and compassionate toward yourself all the time. It’s more about understanding and accepting the best and worst parts about yourself.” Khun Ponpimon Srisongkam is currently a passionate public speaking teacher. For students who are non-native speakers of English, however, transitioning to a multicultural English-speaking environment can be both exciting and challenging. We recognize this pain point, and this is where our English Language Learners (ELL) program comes in. To meet the needs of multilingual learners at every stage of their journey, we’ve designed this program to empower students in their development of English language skills. What is the English Language Learners Program? The English Language Learners (ELL) program is a way XCL ASB Sukhumvit provides additional support to students with limited English proficiency, helping them access mainstream class materials effectively without hindering them academically. The ELL program is staffed by dedicated ELL teachers who work closely with mainstream teachers to support English language development in an inclusive and structured way. The goal of ELL is for students to be empowered to reach full English proficiency and gain the capability to thrive independently in mainstream classes. Advantages of the ELL Program Improve Comprehension and Fluency: ELL equips students with the tools to better understand and use English in both academic and everyday contexts, empowering them to build confidence express themselves clearly and gain the ability to follow instructions, participate in community discussions, and comprehend spoken English with great fluency. Strengthen Academic Writing: Focused guidance in ELL helps students develop the skills to write effectively for essays, reports, and academic tasks, consequently giving students a broader range of words and expressions that enhance their ability to communicate ideas in the English language. Foster Independent Learning: By teaching strategies for self-improvement, ELL empowers students to be self-sufficient learners, giving them the confidence to continue improving their English independent and excel in academic tasks. This involves teaching students how to identify their strengths and areas for improvement and providing them with practical techniques to address their challenges. English Language Learners (ELL) at XCL ASB Sukhumvit At XCL ASB Sukhumvit, we offer ELL for students from grades 1 through 12, giving learners at all levels the opportunity to enhance their English skills throughout their educational journey. Elementary School The ELL program for elementary students combines push-in and pull-out services tailored to their proficiency levels. Level 1 students are pulled out of ELA classes for targeted instruction. Non-Thai students also take English as their world-language, reinforcing content in science and social studies. ELL teachers provide push-in support for these subjects, ensuring students receive language assistance while staying engaged with the core curriculum. ELL students in elementary school must demonstrate adequate vocabulary and speaking skills to communicate effectively in academic contexts as well as have a reading level no more than two grade levels behind the expected standard to exit the ELL program and return to mainstream classes. SEE ELEMENTARY PROGRAM Middle School The ELL program in middle school uses a sheltered immersion model to help students build language proficiency for transitioning into mainstream classes. Progress is tracked through WDA levels, MAP scores, classwork, grades, and teacher observations. ELL students attend homeroom, advisory, Math, PE, and electives with their peers while gradually joining core academic classes as their English improves. During core subjects, ELL teachers and mainstream teachers collaborate to offer targeted support to ELL students to develop necessary skills and vocabulary. Once students exit the ELL program, they can begin learning an additional language. Until then, ELL students are required to take English as a World Language, with targeted grammar, reading, and vocabulary support based on proficiency levels. SEE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM High School The ELL program is available for high school students in grades 9-12 as English proficiency is expected at this level. At high school level, a combination of push-in and pull-out strategies are implemented to address the student’s academic needs. Some students may need additional academic language support through the World English Language program while receiving pull-out support for English Language Arts. To exit the ELL program and assimilate back into mainstream classes, students must demonstrate they’ve mastered the language—showing fluency in vocabulary, speaking, and consistent performance in class.
